An Innovative Active Packaging Approach to Extend the Shelf Life of Fresh-Cut Apples
The Yildiz Research Group is happy to share that the project titled "Innovative Active Packaging for Fresh-Cut Apples by Novel Nanofiber Technology" funded by the New York Apple Association (NYAA), has been successfully completed.

The project was conducted at Cornell University by a collaborative team including Prof. Tamer Uyar (Principal Investigator, Fiber Science), Prof. Randy Worobo (Co-Investigator, Food Science), Dr. Ayse T. Oz (Researcher, Food Science), and Dr. Zehra Irem Yildiz (Researcher, Fiber Science).

The research focused on creating biodegradable, food-safe nanofibers that can slowly release natural protective compounds. This approach has shown strong potential for keeping fresh-cut apples fresher for longer. It also offers a more sustainable alternative to petroleum-based plastics and artificial preservatives, making it a promising step forward in eco-friendly food packaging.
